Timothy B. Hanley M.D.

Dr. Hanley founded Cedar Run Eye Center in 1990 and The Surgery Center in 1997. He joined a group practice when he moved to Traverse City in 1985.

Dr. Hanley is an energetic professional who has sought extensive training, continuing education and certification with the American Board of Ophthalmology (1985) and the American Board of Eye Surgery in Cataract & Implant Surgery (1994). His training includes: Crystalens Implant (2004), Intraocular Contact Lens Implants & Surgery (2003), Aquaflow Collagen Shunt for glaucoma surgery (2002), recertification in Cataract and Implant Sub-specialty from the American Board of Eye Surgeons (2000), training in VISX PRK with Astigmatism (1998), training in Pneumatic Retinopexy (1995) and others.

He received a Michigan State Medical Society (MSMS) Foundation Award in 2003 for his work with Habitat for Humanity program in the Traverse City area and for recruiting fellow physicians to become involved. He is also the recipient of a Fellowship from the Society for Excellency in Eye Care (2001).

A graduate of the Michigan State University Medical School (Lansing), Dr. Hanley completed an internship at Bronson Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan in General Surgery and completed both a residency in Ophthalmology and a fellowship in the division of Vitreo-Retinal Surgery & Disease at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York.

He earned two undergraduate degrees from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor); one in Electrical Engineering and another in Environmental Science Engineering.

His affiliations and memberships include: AAO (American Academy of Ophthalmology), AMA (American Medical Association), ACES (American College of Eye Surgery), SEE (Society for Excellence in Eye Care), ASCRS (American Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons), FASA (Federated Ambulatory Surgery Association), AAAHC (Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care), MOS (Michigan Ophthalmic Society) and MSMS (Michigan State Medical Society).

After finishing his degrees in electrical and environmental science engineering, Dr. Hanley was inspired to use his technical skills to serve those needing help to regain their vision.

He and his wife Sally have two grown children. The Hanley's enjoy family time together and helping to support the community. Dr. Hanley continues to seek alternatives to provide more affordable high quality health care for the Grand Traverse Region and our Nation.
